Weekend exhibition | June 29th-30th, 2024| Opening Reception June 29th 7-11pm
LATHE was an exhibition conceptually inspired by “The Lathe of Heaven”, a science fiction novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. The novel depicts a dystopian future in which one man, George Orr, is capable of changing reality with his dreams. LATHE was an exhibition where each artist has been selected for evoking a sense of world building and dream states in their creative practice. Arrays of vibrant hues and textural play. LATHE artworks are digging in and taking space for peace, rejuvenation, power, and escape - all aids in bearing and processing contemporary human struggle. We ask all to view these optically rich visual dreamscapes presented collectively here in our shared waking state.
For the first curated show at MotherShip Studios, complimentary drinks were offered from our sponsors Austin Beer Works, Tito’s Vodka, Dulce Vida Tequila, and Topo Chico. In addition to the opening reception Saturday 6/29 7-11pm, open hours were held Sunday 6/30 12-3pm, followed by a closing potluck from 6-9pm. The public was encouraged to come share a meal with the community while viewing the show.
